On November 21, BCAN was thrilled to join Governor Healey, Lt. Governor Driscoll, Secretary Tepper, and others for the announcement of the first round of Deep Energy Retrofit Program grants. These will decarbonize apartments while keeping them affordable. The first round of grants will fund renovations across the state, including in:
- Hano Homes apartments in Allston
- Carol Avenue apartments in Brighton
- BHA’s Mildred C. Hailey apartments in Jamaica Plain
- Mission Main apartments in Mission Hill
- The Village at Brookline apartments in Brookline
This funding comes from a $50 million grant program launched by the Healey-Driscoll Administration. The creation of this program comes after years of advocacy for decarbonizing affordable housing by communities across MA, including BCAN.
“We’re grateful to see this initial funding towards decarbonizing our state’s affordable housing,” said BCAN Advocacy Director Hessann Farooqi. “We know that those hit first and worst by climate change are also the people who need affordable housing the most. This program makes sure we have homes that are green, healthy, and affordable.”
More is needed to meet the scope and scale of our climate and affordable housing crises. It’s why BCAN supports the creation of dedicated funding for this through the passage of a Zero Carbon Renovation Fund and the Housing and Environment Revenue Opportunities Act through the MA State Legislature.
