Last week, the Senate voted YES on an amendment to the Economic Development bill empowering state agencies and municipalities throughout Mass to use project labor agreements!
The amendment covers the same territory as the bills H.3012/S.2027 we have been pushing for, but adds it to a larger bill there is significant momentum to pass.
Our member power, conversations with Senators, and materials really made a difference in making this step possible. Thank you all for all you did to make this happen!
What’s next with the Economic Development Bill
The next steps for the Econ. Dev bill are :
- Conference committee to iron out the difference between the House and Senate versions of the bill.
- We’re hopeful our language will stay in as both chambers passed identical versions
- Legislative vote on the final bill.
- There are only a few weeks left in the session, but this is a big bill with a lot of important funding, so we’re hopeful the legislature will move it.
- Governor’s Desk
- Once Governor Healey signs, this becomes law.
What this means for our campaign
This is a huge step! But we’re going to have to keep the pressure on to take this bill across the finish line. One thing you can do today is thank any Senators you talked to recently who cosponsored the amendment.
Even if (when!) this passes, we still need the Governor to issue an Executive Order to make sure the state is doing the most it can on PLAs.
